Under Pressure

Leukemia starts in stem cells of the blood1. It can develop quickly (acute) or over several months (chronic), and is defined based on how quickly it develops and the type of stem cell it developed from.Leukemia has the 11th highest incidence rate of cancer in Canada and 6th highest mortality rate, with a five-year (relative) survival rate of 59%2. It commonly affects children up to 14 years of age, accounting for over 30% of cancer cases within that age group3.
