How much can you learn about cake decorating after 8 hours of classes? Plenty!

This is the cake I baked and decorated after taking Wilton Cake Decorating Course 1 at Michael's craft store. I used the gardens of Versailles as inspiration for this cake, wrapping the 4-layer silver cake in chocolate almond icing, with thick chocolate pastry cream between layers, topped with pink roses and hydrangeas.

My father really loves surprises... And by that I mean, loves to pitch the idea that he promised friends a "batch of those cake-pop things and flower cakes you made the last week cause I promised I would bring them to the barbeque tomorrow afternoon". Say what?!

T-minus 16 hours

I would like to thank my mother for helping me in finishing this "order". We were up until 2am getting this job done... I am definitely charging next time! Tips not included.
