Melanoma is not the only form of skin cancer but it is the most serious. It has the seventh highest incidence rate of cancers in Canada, and ranks 17th in mortality. The lifetime risk of developing melanoma is between 1 and 2%, with the risk of dying less than 0.5%¹. The five-year (relative) survival rate is 89%.

The main cause of skin cancer is exposure to UV light, including the types used in tanning beds. Melanoma is often found in teens and young adults, and a history of sunburns is also considered a risk factor. And if that doesn't convince you to wear sunscreen, UV radiation ages the skin and causes wrinkles²... So, yeah.
